Apollo 13 mission remembered

April 13, 2010 (CHICAGO)

Astronauts and flight directors from both the Apollo and Gemini space programs attended the event. Mission commander James Lovell was there along with module pilot Fred Haise and actors from the Apollo 13 movie.

On April 13, 1970 an oxygen tank explosion forced the mission to be aborted. The goal became getting home safely. Using equipment including a sock and duct tape, the astronauts managed to make the repairs needed to get back to earth.
