Protest draws attention to foreclosures

April 14, 2010 (MAYWOOD, Ill.)

A group called "The Coalition to Save Community Banking" organized this protest in Maywood. They're trying to draw attention to people losing their homes in that suburb and on Chicago's West Side.

"This block is a symbol of the foreclosure crisis that is going on all across the Chicago area devastating many of our communities and indeed, all across the country," said Rev. Marshall Hatch.

The coalition is calling on U.S. Bankcorp to modify loans and take other action to help people keep their homes in Maywood and on the West Side.

A spokesperson says the bank doesn't hold the mortgages the coalition is talking about-- but it's community development group has met with activists and city officials to discuss how to help more people avoid foreclosure.
