Moderate drinking could lower diabetes risk

April 27, 2010 (CHICAGO)

A number of studies have found an association between moderate drinking and a decreased chance of developing Type 2 diabetes.

This new research in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition wanted to see if the link is explained by the generally healthier lifestyles of moderate drinkers. Researchers say it does not.

As to whether alcohol plays some kind of prevention role, researchers are unclear. What they do know is that moderate drinkers are less likely to develop the disease.

Experts stress they are not recommending that people start drinking in the name of prevention.
