Authorities say Viramontes, who has a long history with police that includes a settlement in a 2006 police abuse case, beat Stacy Jurich and her friend Natasha McShane with a baseball bat during a robbery. Authorities say Cruz waited in a car and then drove Viramontes from the scene.
McShane is from Northern Ireland. She is at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Jurich is now at home.
