Women's health center planned at VA hospital

June 7, 2010 (CHICAGO) Congresswoman Judy Biggert and the Veterans Administration cut the ribbon Monday.

The new facility is three times the size of the previous clinical space for women and includes a lactation room, changing tables for infants and a children's corner.

The VA says one of every 16 VA patients is a woman and that number is expected to increase.

"There are more and more women who are in the military and they're doing a great job. If you think they're not in combat you don't know what this war is like," said U. S. Rep. Biggert.

Many women now being treated at Hines have served in Iraq or Afghanistan.
