A raccoon clawed its way through the roof of a Lake Villa home and fell onto a 9-year-old's bed Sunday morning. The child and his 5-year-old brother were able to get out of the room. They were not hurt. Their father trapped the animal inside the bedroom and called police. A Lake County Animal Control crew was dispatched.

"It tore up all the furniture while trying to escape," said Leslie Piotrowski, spokesperson for the Lake County Health Department. The children's room was destroyed.

"Our animal control picked it up and released it into the wild," said Piotrowski, who said the healthy animal was taken out of the area before being released. The Lake County Health Department has followed up with the family, she said, and everyone is OK. She said the family is in the process of moving.

The animal was first heard scratching on the roof in June.
