The teen has been indentified as 15-year-old Cody Prentiss of southwest suburban Burbank.
Prentiss was swimming Saturday night with friends near the 4000-block of East 98th Street.
Police say Prentiss began to struggle and the Coast Guard was alerted to help. Prentiss was pulled from the water and taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
ABC7 is told an investigation into Prentiss' death is under way.
