ABC7 broadcasts Chicago's Bud Billiken Parade

August 14, 2010 (CHICAGO)

ABC7 broadcasted the Bud Billiken parade live Saturday morning, August 14. ABC7's Cheryl Burton, Jim Rose, Bill Campbell, and Karen Jordan covered the festivities.

With more than a million people in attendance, the Bud Billiken Parade is the largest African-American parade and the second largest parade overall in the country.

Recognized as a day of family fun and celebration, the parade has become an anticipated event in Chicago each August. The parade's main goal is to instill enthusiasm for education into the young attendees of the parade, who head back to school in the coming weeks.

The Bud Billiken Parade made its way down Martin Luther King Drive from 39th Street to Washington Park.

Many state and local politicians also hit the parade route, hoping to connect with the crowds in attendance.

ABC7's coverage of the Bud Billiken Parade is available on-demand as a four-part video presentation.
