Quinn marks 19th Amendment anniversary

August 26, 2010

The nation ratified the 19th Amendment, which prohibits sex discrimination in voting rights, to the constitution in August 1920.

"It's important not to forget our history, that we remember people that brought us to this day, who fought so hard for the right to vote for women and also to get the right to get equal pay for equal work," said Gov. Quinn.

Governor Quinn's mother was in the audience. He pointed out she was born before women got the right to vote.
