Blackhawks street banners up for auction

October 7, 2010 (PRESS RELEASE) For the first time since the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup Championship, banners that hung from streetpoles in the downtown area will be available to the public.

The Mayor's Office of Special Events is pleased to announce a silent auction will be held at the Chicago Country Music Festival Friday, October 8 on two of the championship banners that graced Chicago streets during the victory parade for the Blackhawks.

Also included in the auction will be classic banners for the Chicago Marathon, Chicago Bears and the Chicago Country Music Festival signed by the headliners.

October 8 -10 is a huge sports weekend in Chicago with the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks hosting their first home game of the season and the running of the Chicago Marathon. The Country Music Festival is thrilled to host the silent auction in the Americana Tent on the South Promenade in Millennium Park. Bidding will take place from noon - 6:00 p.m. and the winning bid will be announced that evening at the Jay Pritzker Pavillion before Clint Black takes the stage between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m

Get a sneak peek of the banners that will be auctioned off on Thursday, October 7 at the Country Music Festival Preview at Joe's Bar on Weed Street from 6:00 - 8:00p.m. There's no cover and The Slim Picken's Band will take the stage at 7:00 p.m.
