6 rescued after car plunges into Barrington lake

October 16, 2010 (BARRINGTON, Ill.)

Fourteen fire departments responded just after 9:30 p.m. Friday night in south Barrington. When they got there, they found the vehicle submerged in water at Lake Adalyn and Vandenberg Drives.

Divers were called in to make sure that everyone made it out of the water safely.

"We progressed into a rescue mode with the help of the other 14 departments that came in. During our search, we were able to verify that all the victims had been out of the vehicle, were unharmed," said Asst. Chief Donald Wenschhof of the Barrington Fire Department.

All six people were evaluated at the scene and refused further medical treatment. Fire department officials recovered the vehicle from the lake. Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle and crashed in the lake. No charges have been filed.
