Surprise finding on fish, mercury in humans

A report in the New England Journal of Medicine finds no correlation between eating fish with mercury and heart disease and stroke.

Specific types of fish have Omega 3 fatty acids which are good for the heart and can lower the risk of cardiovascular disease.

But fish can also contain methylmercury which was thought to increase the risk of heart disease.

After analyzing samples from almost 7,000 people, researchers did not find a difference in heart disease in those who ate a lot of fish compared to those who did not.
