When crews arrived on the scene Wednesday they tried to replace the cover, which was in the center lane, and found out they couldn't because it had been damaged. Another crew with a new manhole cover was called and replaced the manhole cover after presumably getting stuck in the backup along with commuters.
The travel at time from O'Hare to downtown was one hour and 20 minutes in the local lanes 8 a.m. and 50 minutes in the express lanes.
