Preckwinkle plan includes $680 million in projects

April 20, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Back in December she had issued a moratorium on non-essential capital and professional service contracts. But after a review, she is ready to go forward with a multi-year plan that includes more than $680 million in proposed projects. More than half of the projects are connected to the Cook County health and hospitals system's strategic plan.

"The road toward an efficient long term financial plan starts with the county's capital improvement program. Responsible spending is a priority for my administration and quite simply this is a matter of smarter capital improvements," said Preckwinkle.

The plan still needs to be approved by the county board with a vote could come as early as next month.
