Requests for information can now be delivered via text message.
Officials hope the new "3-1-1 ChiText" option will decrease customer wait times and call volume for 3-1-1 operators. The service allows users to select an option from a menu of information and receive a response in the form of an authentic text message from the city.
In order to use it, residents should begin by texting the word "Chicago" to "3-1-1-3-1-1" for all major cell phone carriers.
