Police find missing Crestwood mother, 3 daughters

April 29, 2011 (CRESTWOOD, Ill.)

Forty-two-year-old Stephanie Owens and her daughters ages 9 to 11 left home on Easter. They were located about 10 a.m. Friday morning in Macomb, about 240 miles southwest of Chicago. Police found their car after it ran out of gas.

"While they were at the vehicle a Good Samaritan appeared with the mother and children. The Good Samaritan had purchased a gas can, fed them, and gave them money so they could get home," said Crestwood Police Chief Theresa Neubauer. "However, police were at the scene, and they took the mother and children into protective custody."

Owens told police she had no idea where she had been the last few days.
