Some Chicago City College students, faculty and union representatives protested Friday that patronage and politics are hurting education.

They were joined by clergy and community representatives in charging that education also suffers because of layoffs and privatization. The protest was outside Mayor Richard Daley's office in City Hall.

The City College administration replied that it saved $30 million in the last year by eliminating inefficiencies and redundant positions. The administration said it re-invested that money in student services.
