A 16-year-old boy was fighting for his life Saturday after he was critically injured in a shooting on the city's Northwest Side.

The shooting happened Friday night in the 2300-block of North Lorel near St. Stanislaus church.

According to Chicago Police News Affairs, the teen, whose name was not being made public, was hanging on in critical condition Saturday morning. He was transported to Illinois Masonic Medical Center at approximately 9:45 p.m. Friday.

After the shooting, police say they searched garbage bins and the entire area near the shooting, but they say by the time they got there, all they found was the 15-year-old lying on the ground and shot in the head.

It is not clear Saturday morning whether a weapon was recovered. No one was in custody.
