Some NW Ind. parks hiring fewer summer workers

June 3, 2011 (CROWN POINT, Ind.)

At the Lake County Parks and Recreation Department, hiring of part-time workers has fallen by nearly 50 percent over the last three years.

Some 318 part-time and seasonal workers are on the payroll, but before Lake County's budget cuts, the county hired up to 600 of those workers throughout the year.

As schools let out for summer, parks departments are juggling maintaining operations with less staff or reduced hours.
