Oprah street sign wasn't approved by city council

June 4, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The Chicago Sun Times reports that City Hall bent the rules for former Mayor Richard Daley and Winfrey so they could share the stage together one last time.

Oprah ended her show last week.

The street sign unveiling happened just five days before Daley left office. The sign outside Oprah's Harpo studios designates the 100-block of N. Carpenter as "Honorary Oprah Winfrey Way."

The council transportation committee meets this week to discuss that street designation and others.
