A special church service on the South Side thanked all veterans from World War II to the present for their service.

The service was organized by a group dedicated to raising awareness and funds for wounded veterans.

The McCarthy Group hosted the tribute at Saint Cajetan Catholic Church.

The McCarthy Group is comprised of Chicago police and firemen, New York firemen, and several combat veterans.

It was formed in honor of Colonel Joseph McCarthy, who was a Chicago firefighter and World War II veteran.

During Sunday's service, honorees included a U.S. Navy SEAL who was wounded in Iraq and a gold star family.
