Crash victim attends high school graduation

June 12, 2011 (CHICAGO)

The crowd cheered as Adriena Wright, 18, entered the gymnasium at East Chicago Central. She suffered two broken feet, broken ankles, a broken back and arm in the crash.

The accident happened the day after her prom as she and her date were driving to the Wisconsin Dells. Their car hydroplaned and flipped over landing on top of a van.

Wright was determined to attend the ceremony and said she felt a sense of accomplishment. "I'm so happy to be here. I didn't know if I was going to make it out of the emergency room and I made it all the way to graduation," Wright said.

"It's so sweet because this is what she worked for so hard. She's been an excellent student ever since she's been in school," said Wright's mother Andrea Wright.

Wright was ranked third in her class. She plans to attend Butler University on a full scholarship once she's recovered. After the ceremony, she had to return to the hospital.
