Women with untreated celiac disease may hit menopause earlier.

They may also have a higher rate of pregnancy complications according to a small study in the journal Menopause.

Researchers say this study is an important finding, especially when combined with other studies that have shown reproductive problems with untreated celiac disease. With this disorder, the body is severely allergic to wheat.

In this report, when the disease was diagnosed early and corrected by a gluten-free diet, women didn't start menopause any earlier and pregnancy complications improved significantly.
