Program provides summer jobs for 2,500 young people

July 5, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Governor Pat Quinn promoted the program Tuesday at Eden Place Nature Center on Chicago's South Side.

"We want to make sure that young people get a chance to work and get the advantages of getting a paycheck, getting to work on time, learning the values of working with others, but also doing something that gives back to our community, to our state, helping our natural resources, in particular our conservation," he said.

Young workers will earn $8.50 an hour at more than 100 locations, including park districts, libraries and forest preserves.
