A man has died after he was pulled from Lake Michigan near Navy Pier Monday night.

Friends say a group of people went swimming to a buoy in the lake. Nineteen-year-old Javier Rivera, of suburban Hanover Park, got into trouble and began going under the water.

Friends could not get to Rivera because of the strong current.

Divers had to be called in.

Rivera was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he later died.
