1,300 kids get backpacks of school supplies from firefighters

August 4, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Firefighters in Lawndale shut down the street in front of the firehouse and filled it with entertainment.

There were basketball games, giant slides, a rock climbing tower and a huge balloon.

Kids were able to get their arms and faces painted, too.

When the fun was over, 1,300 children got backpacks full of school supplies courtesy of the city's Fire Prevention Bureau West and Firehouse 107.
