Study: Pumping iron might help smokers quit

August 10, 2011

Researchers have found that three months of pumping iron regularly appeared to reduce cigarette cravings, withdrawal symptoms and weight gain.

In addition, both men and women who completed the resistance training program were twice as likely to kick the habit as smokers who did not lift weights.

The study was funded by the U.S. National Cancer Institute.

The results are published in the journal Nicotine and Tobacco Research.
