Winged roller coaster to debut at Six Flags

September 1, 2011 (GURNEE, Ill.)

The Gurnee theme park announced plans Thursday to add a state-of-the-art winged coaster called "X-Flight."

Great America provided animation showing what the coaster will look like.

Riders will not have a track above or below them. Instead they will sit suspended on either side of the track with their feet dangling.

After a 12-story plunge they'll be launched through 3,000 feet of high-speed drops, loops and turns.

X-Flight is scheduled to open next spring.
