Children on field trip left at pumpkin patch

October 26, 2011 (CHICAGO)

Several children, aged 2 to 5 years old, were on the trip from the Firman Community Services Center at 47th and State. They spent five hours in Homer Glen at a pumpkin patch when their bus left the entire group.

ABC7 spoke with several parents who were dropping of their children at the center Wednesday morning. They say the buses took off at the scheduled time and the children and their adult chaperones returned to the buses late.

"I was pretty upset about it. I couldn't do anything. I just wanted to find out where he was at so I could go pick him up or whatever, but nobody knew definitively and no one at the school is taking calls," said Ashley Venerable, parent.

"They told us the bus is on their way. We sat here for five hours. These kids were supposed to be back by 1 or 2 o'clock p.m. We didn't receive our kids yesterday until 7:40 at night," said Vernisha Haynes, parent.

The school did not want to comment on the matter.

ABC7 has put a call out to the bus company for comment but have not heard back.
