Prolonged sitting linked to cancer?

November 3, 2011

A new report finds the hours Americans spend sitting may be increasing their risk for cancer, just as the time we spend exercising can reduce the risk.

Experts report, when it comes to colon or breast cancers, they can now say there is convincing evidence that being physically active reduces your risk of those two major cancers by up to 35 percent.

But they add it is not just enough to meet the physical activity guidelines of 150 minutes a week of exercise. If you are spending the rest of your time sitting say in front of a computer that may be a problem.

Canadian scientists say the more you move the lower your risks.
