Harvey street named for slugger Barry Bonds

November 5, 2011 (HARVEY, Ill.)

City officials in Harvey renamed a section of 150th and Loomis after the former San Francisco Giants slugger. Officials say Bonds has been a friend to the city for years and has helped underprivileged children in the area.

Bonds is baseball's all-time home run king. He was on hand for the official unveiling.

"I really truly want to say thank you to this community for accepting me," Bonds said. "I hope wonderful, wonderful things in the future go well for this community of Harvey."

Earlier this year, Bonds was convicted of obstruction of justice for misleading statements he made during a steroids investigation. Bonds is scheduled to be sentenced in December.
