Dad's depression might put kids at risk

Scientists say the nature of the link is still not clear. But their study finds the children of depressed dads are more likely to show signs of behavioral and emotional problems.

This study also found that children whose parents are both depressed are at particularly high risk.

There has been little research into how the mental state of fathers may affect kids. Experts say this is important because fathers get left out of all sorts of policy and clinical deliberations about the well being of children.

The study appears in the journal Pediatrics.
