Hospital counselor accused of bilking patient

January 6, 2012 (JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind.)

Thirty-two-year-old Arsalan Haq of Louisville, Ky., faces five counts of felony theft and was released from jail Wednesday after posting $1,000 bond.

The News and Tribune reports that Clark Memorial Hospital in Jeffersonville has dismissed Haq.

A woman who's an illegal immigrant and doesn't have insurance told police she was referred to Haq after being diagnosed with cancer. She says she paid him nearly $1,500 after he allegedly told her she had to pay before being treated.

Haq's attorney says his client's version of events "differs greatly" from the woman's account.
