The competition is funded through a private innovation grant and will be rewarded to up to 30 schools. CPS officials say they want schools to be creative in how they plan to expand on their core curriculum.
This year, 39 pilot schools moved to a seven-and-a-half hour school day and added 17 extra days to the academic calendar year.
The entire district will move to longer days this fall.
