Slain clerk's family asks for help to solve murder

March 6, 2012 (MERRILLVILLE, Ind.)

Judi Simpson-Beaver was killed in an armed robbery on Sunday. Surveillance video of the Lucky Mart Foods in Merrillville shows Beaver complying with the demands and the gunman, and then he shoots her.

"I hope somebody sees something or knows something and comes forward, tells the police, tells somebody, and then I hope those people, once the police find out some more information, hopefully they'll find out who did this and it won't happen to somebody else," Zachary Beaver, Simpson-Beaver's eldest son, told ABC 7.

Police are looking for a brown Oldsmobile and possibly three suspects. Based on surveillance video, authorities believe that there may have been two people in addition to the gunman.

Zachary Beaver served in the Army and his brother is currently serving in Afghanistan. He is now asking for help to find the person responsible for his mother's murder.

"Just think if this were your parent or your relative, what would you want done?" Beaver said. "Just help me and my brother try to get some closure and the rest of my family. We've dedicated our lives, just like my mom did, to serving people. And we never asked for anything in return, until now."

Zachary Beavers' son, Caleb, is nearly one.

"When she came here all she would do is stare at him and hold him," said Beaver. "Basically it's like I wasn't even here. She was obsessed with him. Now she's not going to see him walk."

Judi Simpson-Beaver's youngest son is on his way back from Afghanistan where he has already dealt with much tragedy. His unit was the one that suffered four fatalities just a few weeks ago.

Police are asking anyone with information to call the Merrillville Police Department at 219-769-3531.
