Fewer doctors prescribe sinus antibiotics

March 21, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Infectious Diseases Society of America has new guidelines for Sinusitis. Those experts say up to 98% of sinus infections are caused by viruses, not bacteria. They are recommending most sinusitis not be treated with antibiotics.

Another study find people battling Chronic Sinusitis may benefit from some alternative medicine. Acupuncture, acupressure and dietary changes could spell significant relief for these patients. That's when used in tandem with standard western treatments.

The study appears in The Archives of Otolaryngology.
