College tuition keeps rising, and so do student loan default rates. As a result, many colleges and financial advisers are making a more concerted effort to help students understand the consequences of large college loans.

"They never stop to think, 'What's my life going to be like after I graduate? Do I want to have a car? Do I want to live with my parents?" one adviser said.
