Controversy after mom puts 7-year-old on strict diet

The woman put her 7-year-old daughter on a strict diet and then she wrote about the experience for Vogue magazine.

Dara-Lynn Weiss says her clinically obese daughter would not stop eating and was never full.

Weiss struggled with her own weight issues and tried to tackle the problem by putting her daughter on a strict diet. She turned to the kid-friendly "Red Light, Green Light, Eat Right" approach.

Dr. Joanna Dolgoff designed the diet but criticizes Weiss for being too strict, depriving her daughter of foods like pizza and cupcakes, and doing it in front of other children and parents.

"The parent is not the food police. We are not here to make the child feel bad about themselves," said Dolgoff.

Weiss admits she has been labeled a pariah by other mothers in her community. Her daughter is now 16 pounds lighter.
