Ex county clerk sentenced for stolen money

April 19, 2012 (AUBURN, Ind.)

A judge gave former LaGrange County Clerk Beverly Elliott a pair of one-year suspended sentences Wednesday after she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor counts of criminal conversion. She'll spend two years on probation and have to perform 100 hours of community service.

Special Prosecutor Tom Wilson tells The Star of Auburn that four charges of official misconduct were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Elliott resigned last month from the office she was first elected to in 2004.

She was charged with taking nearly $5,000 in county money, while the state attorney general's office sued Elliott over some $18,000 missing from her office.
