Sugary drinks out at 4 Chicago-area hospitals

April 24, 2012 (CHICAGO)

Vanguard Health announced Wednesday it will phase out sugary drinks at the four hospitals it operates in the Chicago area. That news came during a "Rethink Your Drink" symposium held at Rush University Medical Center.

A speaker with the Illinois Public Health Institute said the No. 1 way people consume sugar is through soda and other drinks.

Vanguard will begin the phase out starting in July.

Vanguard operates MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, Weiss Memorial in Chicago, West Suburban in Oak Park and Westlake Hospital in Melrose Park.
