Sauk School honors fallen soldier

June 6, 2012 (CHICAGO)

The Sauk School in Richton Park presented a certificate to the family of Army Staff Sergeant David Nowaczyk. He died in April in Afghanistan when his Humvee was hit by an improvised explosive device. Nowaczyk's sister teaches at the school.

Since Nowaczyk's death students and teachers have logged more than 5,000 miles around the school's track. That is in honor of the extra mile the soldier went in his three tours of duty in Afghanistan.

The entire school assembled outside for the event and a tree was planted in memory of the fallen soldier.
