July 20, 2012 (CHICAGO) --Pediatricians say to help children cope with tragedies you should respond differently depending on their age:
- Keep preschoolers away from TV and computers. They don't understand that incidents like this are rare and that Colorado is far away.
- For grade school age kids, you want to reassure them that these things almost never happen and police have captured the suspect
- Doctors say teens may watch news reports with their parents, then talk with them and point out how rare these mass shootings are
