Chicago police hold monthly awards ceremony

Chicago police honored their own Tuesday for their work within the department.

The police department held its monthly awards ceremony at Chicago public safety headquarters on S. Michigan Tuesday morning.

Superintendent Garry McCarthy was there along with officers' families.

The ceremony paid tribute to the officers who have distinguished themselves or performed acts of heroism.

McCarthy also talked about beat officers being the backbone of the department in the fight against crime and violence in Chicago.
