Apple doughnuts

  • 2 c applesauce
  • 2 1/2c apple cider
  • 3 1/2c all purpose flour
  • 4tsp baking powder
  • 1/4tsp baking soda
  • 2tsp cinnamon
  • 1tsp salt
  • 1/4tsp nutmeg
  • 2/3c sugar
  • 3tbs shortening
  • 1egg
  • 1yolk
  • 1/4c buttermilk
  • 1tsp vanilla
  • Veg oil for frying and cinnamon sugar for dusting

Preheat oil to 350F

1. Reduce apple cider by half

2. In large bowl mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt

3. In mixer cream shortening and sugar.

4. Add egg and yolk and scrape bowl.

5. Mix in vanilla and buttermilk

6. Add applesauce and reduced cider

7. Mix in dry ingredients until combine

8. Roll out and cut out doughnuts

9. Fry until golden brown then drain onto paper towel

10. Cover in cinnamon sugar and serve
