State of Illinois joining in sending cheer baskets to troops

December 17, 2012 (CHICAGO)

"The packages we assemble will go to service members actually here at home, some overseas, but their families here, all of whom are struggling to make ends meet," said Erica Borggren, the director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs.

The baskets will be given to 150 Illinois service members and their families.

They include Dominick's gift cards, White Sox gear, and gourmet popcorn.

The program is funded in part by the Veterans Cash lottery game, which started six years ago. It has since awarded more than $10 million to veterans organizations.
