Emanuel won't use public money for Wrigley renovations

January 23, 2013 (CHICAGO)

The team said it would cover the tab, if the city will ease landmark restrictions at the field.

That would allow the team to raise more money through signs and advertising.

Emanuel acknowledged the team's economic benefit to the city Wednesday.

"So I asked all the parties involved to finish this up," he said. "We all have a stake in getting it done. There are 1200 jobs at stake in building and refurbishing Wrigley."

Rooftop owners around Wrigley have expressed concern about their views being blocked by more signs.

When asked about that, Emanuel said he would not negotiate the deal in public.
