The incident took place on the tracks of the 3 train in Crown Heights.
Although there is no criminality in this incident, it has renewed calls for the MTA to do more to protect straphangers.
Police say a middle-aged woman fell backwards on to the tracks at the Utica station before being fatally struck by a 3 train just before 11 a.m. Tuesday.
Witnesses said before the incident, the woman appeared to be dizzy. Police sources the woman may have fainted and fallen onto the tracks.
New York Councilman James Vacca chairs the transportation committee that recently held a hearing on subway safety.
He says the MTA should continue to invest in a public safety awareness campaign including a PSA announcements in stations before trains arrive.
"The MTA is looking into glass doors at some stations but the incident that happened in Brooklyn could happen anywhere," said Vacca.
There have been talks about motorman slowing trains before they enter the stations, but Vacca is concerned that will delay trains that will create more people on the platforms.
