Group wants DNA test for Abraham Lincoln museum's hat

February 18, 2013

A farmer reportedly got the hat from the then-future president back in 1858. That man's descendants donated it to Lincoln's memorial library.

A historic panel now wants a DNA test by Illinois police to prove the item's authenticity.

The Chicago Sun-Times first reported the possible error.

The library curator says testing the fragile hat could damage it when there is no compelling reason for it.
