In a letter posted on Metra's website, Alex Clifford apologized for the way the transit agency handled delays following a fatal incident Thursday night.
A pedestrian was struck by a train near Westmont just before 6 p-m. Officials closed all three BNSF tracks near the area. Some Metra customers faced delays of up to two hours.
Clifford says he "working with BNSF railway to address" the communication issues.
