A now vacant firehouse on the city's South Side is the future home of a museum dedicated to African-American Chicago firefighters.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the museum will be located at the station in the 5300-block of South Wabash, in the Washington Park neighborhood.

Emanuel says it is important that the city remember and honor the public safety contributions of African-American firefighters.

A date for the museum's opening has not been set.
